Fun, exciting. But it is not fair to lose the work of a race for a start at the end.
|
|
|
So if we’re going back to the restart order wouldn’t we in theory get one lap left to race? 56 going into 57 was the restart, surely we should be formation lapping on 57 and a one lap sprint to the end?
Do the race control even know what they’re doing?

Sainz penalty: Is it too severe? will push him all the way to the back in the last lap, with no chance to recover
Jordan, yes, but rolling start this one
|
|
|
Lame end... but fair for Max to win.
|

Went from most exciting to most boring end in 1 lap ..

What a day for Ferrari.. :(

5 sec penalty for Sainz for causing a collision... But Alonso got his position back so it seems kinda unfair...
Quote ( Jordan Randall @ April 2nd 2023,09:30:35 ) Do the race control even know what they’re doing? Don't think so...

Right after the checkered flag there was another red flag, (Hulkenberg car broke down..) hope he had enough fuel to keep the points
|

|
Alpine and Ferrari sure got the short end of it this race... But it was a emotional rollercoaster, that's for sure.
Nice to see Alonso again and again in the podium after so many years.

Correct Josh.... An exciting race was screwed by a complete fiasco of a finish. Can someone explain to me what the point was of getting the cars to trundle round for 1 lap behind the safety car?? I am trying to get someone interested in F1 and they have just asked me.... and I don't have an answer
Easy solution.... If a race is red flagged less than 5 laps from the end the standings at that point is the finishing order.....

Imo, it's because of two things: money and netflix.
The second red flag was because a lot of new fans expects as many overtakes and crazy stunts as in F3 and yes, launching the race again will be an entire Drive to Survive episode...
But, with so much money at stake, the rules must be followed to the letter or lawyers might get involved, and the rules say that if there is no reasonable cause not to, you must complete all the laps. And there was not a reasonable cause not to after cleaning the track... This is enforced because your car might break down and be out of the points as almost happened to Hulkemberg.
The race should have finish behind the safety car that was already out, as boring as that might be but FIA has to do a FIA thing.

56 going into 57 was the restart, surely we should be formation lapping on 57 and a one lap sprint to the end? They never add laps, it would screw everyone's fuel up.
Sainz's penalty was a little harsh but in some ways he was the trigger for all/some of the chaos behind so they probably felt someone had to be handed one. I'd prefer to see that penalty overturned and a new one one given him for moaning so pathetically about the first one.

In my opinion, this whole Melbourne race weekend has been shambolic, across F1, F2, F3 and Supercars. Not one clean race! Drivers, teams, race stewards/directors and governing bodies need to do better.
More power to you if you enjoyed the racing the weekend.

🚨| New Sprint weekend format has been agreed by the F1 teams, where we would have:
FRI -> FP1, Quali (for race) SAT -> Quali (for Sprint), Sprint SUN -> Race
Both qualis will remain Q1, Q2, Q3 (no one-shot).
However, it must still be backed by the F1 Commission and the FIA.

Quote ( Marcelo Ascencio @ April 3rd 2023,22:32:36 ) FRI -> FP1, Quali (for race) SAT -> Quali (for Sprint), Sprint SUN -> Race
Both qualis will remain Q1, Q2, Q3 (no one-shot). I like that better than the current system, but to be honest I'd rather see the same as the F2 and F3 sprint races where the top 10 are reversed. I doubt the grid for the sprint and the race will be much different from each other.
The way it is at the moment is a bit like adding an extra 33% to the race distance, then red flagging it and resuming the race the next day. Feels a bit pointless honestly and just gives anyone who's out of position some extra laps to make up places for the real race.

I remember this being asked, and drivers hated the idea.

But in my opinion, It will not stop Red Bulls, what it will do is it will impact Mercedes and Ferrari, since they seem to struggle a lot to pass cars and the midpack is way too close...
Rewarding slow teams with results will not fix the sport.

Fair point, it is a bit gimmicky and would come with its own drawbacks. It just feels to me like the sprint races don't really add anything in their current form, and I can't see much changing with the new proposal besides perhaps some drivers taking more risks.

I do not really agree: Q for race are in afternoon, Q for sprint in the morning of next day, possibly the weather can be from different (just temperature) to very different (all the conditions), so the grid should be quite different just because of this and the race/sprint develop in different ways. Anyway we will see next weekend racing what it will happen..
I have the feeling that con next seasons we will see sprint about all the weekends (as it happen already in Motogp).

Quote ( Marcelo Ascencio @ April 3rd 2023,22:32:36 ) FRI -> FP1, Quali (for race)
SAT -> Quali (for Sprint), Sprint
SUN -> Race Replacing practice sessions with more meaningful competitive sessions with points up for grabs doesn't seem a bad idea itself, they just need to get rid of the parc ferme restrictions so teams can treat them like practice sessions if they need. Then it should be:
FRI -> FP1, Quali (for sprint) SAT -> Sprint, Quali (for race) SUN -> Race
With unrestricted car changes until after the race quali as usual. Otherwise it will always be as Max said - just some more laps to drive while avoiding drama.

I like the sprints. They are still working the kinks out but it's going in the right direction.
Better for the people who actually go to races as well. Makes Friday mean more and I'm a bit fan of having something competitive all 3 days building up to the feature race on Sunday.
Qualifriday is easily one of the best things about sprint weekends. Love that.

Qualifriday is easily one of the best things about sprint weekends. Love that. It would be great to achieve that, I gladly buy another ticket if that is achieved in Miami GP for example

Williams to ROKIT - Suck my balls, mate! :)
|
|
|
It's weird, I don't think they have a case.. but, let's see how this pans out
Is Rokit like Rich energy? or is it an actual company?
|
|
|
ROKiT is a next-generation global media company. and more than that...
Seems to be a 'tit for tat' school yard buffoonery from RoKit.

I don't see they have a chance. As a publicly traded company Williams financials were on display and they were clearly struggling financially, saying toward the end of 2018:
"Revenue and EBITDA in Formula One reduced in the first half of 2018, reflecting the challenging financial environment we operate in as an independent team. We are enduring a tough 2018 season on track, which has demanded additional investment to tackle performance issues, and we have been working through these while also turning significant attention to the design of next year’s car. There continues to be a large gap in competitive expenditure between the leading teams and the rest of the grid"
Putting your faith in a bit of optimistic bluster during a face-to-face against that back drop is just due diligence failure.
Quote ( Marcelo Ascencio @ April 6th 2023,20:18:17 ) Is Rokit like Rich energy? or is it an actual company? Maybe questions like this are why they're taking it to court. Any publicity is good publicity.
