I think I'll use a Ferrari livery tomorrow..there isn't one from Gilles' era in the game but the 1994 version is reasonably close.

I have kissed the Circit du Gilles Villeneuve track surface. Alas, never been able to make it to Imola.
When I saw Spa cancelled from the F1 calendar I made it right away to the race at Montreal, in fear I'd never see an F1 race like those two tracks.
After the race I walked the entire track in reverse.
I have a Subaru station wagon. In the off-season you can drive all the way around the track. However it is a bicycle and roller skating speed enforced.
Including the numerous full stops (Arret! in French), my overall 1 lap time on Circuit du Gilles Villeneuve is something like 14:50.000 hehe
:P

Legend of Formula One and the champion that never was sadly, I am sure he would have placed his name down as one of the all time greats, but in my head I still class him as one of the all time greats and he would have won many championships in the 1980's for sure!
Long live Gilles Villeneuve, legend!

I was just nine but I still remember clear in my mind that tragic saturday night. Was more o less 21.00 CET when the news rebounded on Italian TV that medics switched off all artificial life machines because Gilles brain's dead..... He was very different from all drivers especially from the late '90 and 2000 drivers. Hoping I'll know him in heaven with his 27 red car of course in my next life ;)

Wow, I didn't know that happened on this date. Exactly 30 years ago today we arrived in Australia (originally from Poland) and started watching F1 about 2 years later (when I was 8). I didn't really know that much about Villeneuve until I started following the progress of his son, when he first appeared in Indycars. 4 years later he was already Indycar and F1 World Champion :)
Salut Gilles!

Please dont think I'm being disrespectful because I'm not, I wasnt really old enough to be a fan of Gilles, his race results dont look that impressive to me, so what I want to know is what made him so respected? This is a genuine question. As I've said i just want to know. Thanks. I guess I'm hoping for managers who were old enough at the time to answer this as for the majority of us we only really have hearsay to go on.

@jon . i was 11 years old jon 1982,but i saw as a boy so many videos, comments, reviews from races and everything else from gilles that i think i know enough from gilles.jon he was a driver that always, even in a normal testdrive or with a car on the streets touched hhis and cars absolute redline limit's.he wasnt a driver who wre thinking about points, championships or anything else what other drivers always did and today do.he was a kind like mike tyson in the ring(tyson:"i just go into a ring to let the animal inside me out of his cage") ...he just went into a car(everything had a engine and something to bring it on the edge)to let the "crazy little boy" out.he was a heartdriver....very emotional and sensible but in a F1 car he was fearless and did things that only a little boy would because he dont know what realy will happend if he touches this wall with near 300km/h.other drivers like lauda, prost, rosberg wasnt the drivers who would say :" this time in my practice(!!) i will do this corner with full throttle whatever happens"!!the other drivers just lokked at him..some were smiling like "ok ok u will think about if u come to this corner".he went out and did it ,i have a picture from his ferrari doing a right corner with the right rear tyre not touching the ground and between him and the barriers is maybe 20cm!! in this moment his ferrari was near 280km/h fast, people who were there in this corner watching him told the reporter that the car did things like sliding out of control willing to fly over the spectators ... but the didnt hear the engine loosing the fullthrottle sound.he is a legend because he had a fearless crazy little boy inside who played with F1 cars.and jo the end was that tragic because he died from an jochen mass taking the wrong side of the track when he was on a slow lap.in my opinion gilles could break up his fast lap and just wait for the next...but he was a little crazy fearless boy who wanted always to be on the limit.

Quote ( Jon Day @ May 8th 2012,12:18:24 ) what I want to know is what made him so respected? This is a genuine question. As I've said i just want to know. Thanks. He was one of the brightest talent ever been in F1. Uncompromised driver, always trying to go faster than what his car could allow him. I remember a race when he managed to stay first even with a slower car, blocking some 5 or 6 other cars for half the race. Another one was when he incredibly drove for many laps with the front wing damaged. A true legend.
